Imperial College London wanted to scale up Graphene production. They chose Reactor-Ready and AVA Software to enable careful temperature control of an exothermic reaction and controlled liquid additions.

Imperial College London CS1036 Reactor-Ready Duo AVA Software Huber thermocirculator

Contacts: Dr. Victoria G. Rocha

Organisation: Imperial College London

Department: Materials

Country: United Kingdom

Product: Reactor-Ready Duo, AVA Software, Huber thermocirculator

Case Study No: CS1036

Situation

Before using Reactor-Ready it was only possible to make small quantities of Graphene in a small round bottomed flask. There was no temperature control, just an ice or heating bath and the additions were done manually.

Objective

To scale up Graphene production to produce large enough quantities to test in various applications.

Results

Radleys supplied a Reactor-Ready Duo linked to a Huber 405 thermoregulator, a peristaltic pump and balance all controlled by AVA Software (Level 4) to enable gravimetric additions to be made remotely. This allowed the group to safely scale up the production of Graphene keeping the temperature under control and safely making controlled liquid additions.
