Organisation: A Global Process Research and Development CRO

Department: Facilities Manager

Country: UK

Product: Heidolph Distimatic

Case Study No: CS1098

The Situation

This UK-based Process Research and Development CRO needed to remove large quantities of solvent (>5 L) to concentrate samples during scale-up processes. Previously they used standard rotary evaporators for this, but they were unsuitable as they required a lot of interaction from an assigned chemist.

The Objective

To improve scale-up processes, support workflow improvements and free-up valuable researcher’s time.

The Result

Industrial scale rotary evaporators were initially considered, however the Distimatic was chosen because it minimise the quantity of the reaction mixture undergoing concentration. This helped to achieve their aim while improving both the efficiency and the security of their process by minimising the amount of reagent undergoing purification at any one time.

Since installation the Distimatic has been able to support the scale-up processes and improved workflows through automation; releasing chemists to do other work.

The commissioning of equipment has been able to support the scale-up processes and improved our workflows by providing automation: releasing chemists to do other work. Facilities Manager, Global Process Research and Development CRO
