Case Study No: CS1096

The Situation

When doing reactions one at a time in an oil bath there were inconsistent results. Limited oil bath space was a research bottleneck.

The Objective

The ability to run reactions with subtly different conditions in parallel to optimise and troubleshoot reactions.

The Results

The Carousel 12 Plus eliminates experimental uncertainty by enforcing uniformity in heating, stirring, and Nitrogen flow. By running reactions simultaneously on a single unit, uniform conditions are enforced.

It allows for more effective experimentation upon chemically delicate monomers, since multiple experimental conditions can be run at once, so degradation due to storage is minimised.

The Carousel 12 allows for significant expansion of the group’s monomer library by allowing for multiple simultaneous reactions.

The new set up has mitigated scheduling conflicts as the multiple reaction slots cut down on demand for scarce oil baths.
