Parallel reaction stations allow you to carry out several reactions simultaneously under the same conditions, which is a great way of saving time and increasing productivity.

At Radleys, our two main types of parallel reaction stations are Carousel 12 and Carousel 6. These personal parallel synthesis stations can be used for solid or solution phase chemistry.

Benefits

Both reaction stations are quick to set up and easy to use and offer a number of benefits including:

  • Powerful and even stirring because all the stirring vessels are positioned equidistant from the hotplate’s magnetic centre.

  • Rapid heating with an accuracy of ±1 ˚C. The temperature can be controlled using the hotplate’s digital control or, for greater accuracy, via an optional Pt1000 temperature sensor which allows users to control by block or solution temperature.

  • An efficient water-cooled aluminium reflux head which minimises solvent loss through evaporation.

  • Easy-On PTFE caps with a ‘quick-thread’ for fast attachment to glass tubes and an on/off valve for isolation and removal from the inert gas system.

  • Easy viewing of vessel contents during experiments.

  • Operation under an inert atmosphere.

Both carousels can be upgraded to perform cooled chemistry to -78 ˚C.

How are Carousel 6 and 12 different?

Now you know the main benefits you’ll get whichever reaction station you choose, it’s worth looking at how the two reaction stations are different.

Parallel Reaction Stations Carousel 6 and 12 Plus

Carousel 12

  • Fluoropolymer coating for chemical resistance and easy cleaning.

  • Accepts up to 12 tubes, in sizes ranging from 1 to 20 ml.

  • Easy to lift and transfer 12 samples together between the heating base and your cooling base.

  • Removable Fluoropolymer insulation plate, saving up to 36% energy and preventing burns.

Parallel Reaction Stations Carousel 6 and 12 Plus

Carousel 6

  • Accepts round bottom flasks, including vessels with one or two sidearms.

  • Can use up to six vessels simultaneously from 5 ml up to 250 ml.

  • Accepts 250 ml Azeotropic (Dean & Stark) flask option.

  • Option for overhead stirring for viscous materials.

  • Round bottom flasks fit straight onto a Rotary evaporator to evaporate your samples directly.

  • Can use accessories, such as addition funnels.

Carousel 6 add-ons and integrations

Carousel 6 integrates with Tornado System for powerful stirring of viscous samples.

Storm and Breeze are add-on modules for the Carousel 6 Plus and Tornado combination and create powerful Parallel Process Reactors for controlled heating and cooling.

Storm is ideal for process optimisation and development, while Breeze is ideal for fast and precise solution temperature control in applications such as crystallisation studies.

Choosing between the Carousel 6 and 12

A few points to consider when choosing between Carousel 6 and 12 include:

  • What volumes do you need to work at?

  • Which type of vessels do you want to use (tubes or RBFs)?

  • How many experiments do you want to run at once?

For example, due to the small volumes, Carousel 12 is particularly good for catalyst screening.
