Mechanical Assembler

About the job

This role involves the assembly of all Radleys in-house assembled products. You will be working in our Production Team, assembling world-class scientific products for our UK and international customers.

  • Reporting to the Production Manager
  • Assembling and testing of current products:
    • Mechanical & electro-mechanical assembly, following detailed manufacturing method files
    • Ensuring that necessary quality & performance checks & tests are carried out during the assembly process, following detailed procedures
    • Completing all necessary process documentation associated with the assembly & testing of products
    • Support trouble shooting with components or assembled products
    • Help to identify areas for improvement in current assembly processes, procedures and work flows
  • General:
    • Assisting with the management of assembly & testing procedures & documents and any associated process improvements
    • Checking of product sub-components
    • Participate and support continuous improvement, lean and 5S activities to maximise productivity
    • Close liaison with members of the Supply Chain team to ensure that necessary sub-component stock levels are adequate
    • Working with the R&D team in the handover of new assembled products
    • Pre-production and post-production support in the glassblowing workshop if required

About you

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • 2 to 5 years minimum working experience in a mechanical assembly environment
  • Proven experience in trouble shooting and root cause analysis in mechanical environment
  • Strong practical skills with the capability to carry out basic wiring, soldering, crimping skills
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Fully IT literate with standard Microsoft Office packages e.g. Word and Excel
  • Ideally skills & experience in electro-mechanical, electronics, electrical engineering or similar

  • Enthusiasm and perseverance with a positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new skills
  • Well organised & tidy, with a good attention to detail and the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues and partners
  • Willing to get ‘stuck in’ at all levels and to undertake whatever is required to complete the job
  • Capable of working as part of a team and able to use own initiative when working individually
  • Diligent attitude with the determination to see things through to completion
  • Good time keeper and reliable
