Senior Scientific Glassblower

Senior Scientific Glassblower, Saffron Walden

Are you a skilled glassblower with experience of a wide variety of glassblowing techniques?

If so, then we want to talk to you. We require a Senior Scientific Glassblower to work in our modern production facility in Saffron Walden.

This exciting role involves the manufacture of a broad range of scientific glassware as well as a team leader role. You will be working in our Production team, helping us to give our customers the high quality, innovative glassware products they want, backed up with excellent pre & post-sales support.

You’ll need the right mix of technical glassblowing and team working skills. You’ll be reporting to the Production Manager, and working closely with the other Senior Glassblowers, Production Planner and Production Engineer.

The Role

  • Manufacture of the full range of Radleys scientific glassware
  • Producing scientific glassware to high quality standards
  • Close communication to ensure that items are manufactured and completed to agreed schedules
  • Helping to develop and improve manufacturing processes
  • Providing development, training and mentoring for less experienced glassblowers
  • Taking on responsibility for non-glassblowing workshop activities e.g. quality, health & safety etc.
  • Be prepared to carry out any other general duties if required to ensure the smooth running of the workshop and the company in general

The Person

You'll need to have following skills & experience:

  • Broad experience of scientific glassblowing, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a scientific glassblowing workshop
  • Ability to manufacture the full range of Radleys glassware products, including vacuum jacketed reaction vessels up to 5 L minimum
  • Ability to work on the bench and on lathes
  • Able to demonstrate teamworking and leadership skills
  • Able to follow technical drawings and understand manufacturing instructions

And have the following qualities:

  • Good communication & teamworking skills, with the ability to effectively interact pleasantly and positively with the Production Team and all staff at Radleys
  • Good time keeping and reliable
  • Enthusiasm and perseverance with a positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Ability to promote a positive and enthusiastic team environment
  • Well organised with a good attention to detail with the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Diligent attitude with the determination to see things through to completion
  • Capable of working as part of a team and able to use own initiative when working individually
  • Aptitude to meet challenges that may arise
