Production Engineer

The job

Working for the Production Manager

CAD drawing work

  • Design of glassware items to meet customer requirements using CAD
  • Design of tooling, jigs, gauges etc. for the workshop using CAD
  • Management of all drawings related to workshop, both glassware and equipment
  • Any other drawing work requirements

Workshop tools and equipment

  • Organise maintenance and repair
  • Sourcing of non-standard products and components to fulfil needs of the glassblowing workshop
  • Interaction with external partners & suppliers for sourcing, quality issues and re-working of bespoke and standard equipment

Quotations

  • Producing customer quotations for all custom glassware items and glassware repairs

Quality & procedures

  • Support the Production Team where necessary in the Quality Control of all incoming and manufactured parts
  • Inspection and analysis of returned products for repair and / or re-work and implementation of any necessary corrective actions
  • Supporting the Production Manager in the provision of procedures and protocols for in-house manufacture, assembly, testing & QA

Technical Manager support & holiday cover

  • Custom system quotations
  • CAD drawing requirements
  • System build & testing

Any other tasks required to support the Production Manager in the running of the Production Department

Experience & Skills

  • Good working knowledge of 3D CAD systems, ideally Solidworks
  • Experience of working in a production/assembly/manufacturing environment
  • Background in mechanical design
  • Educated to degree level, ideally in a scientific or engineering discipline
  • Excellent PC skills - advanced level skill in Excel and intermediate in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good and clear communicator
  • Full driving license

  • Well organised with a good attention to detail with the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy

Production Planner

The job

Working for the Production Manager

Planning
  • Plan the day-to-day activity of the factory using stock demand, customer orders and available forecast information
  • Work with the Production Manager to determine when / how new orders can be managed to ensure customer satisfaction levels are met
  • Liaise with all internal departments as necessary to ensure plan requirements are understood and that all delivery dates are managed on time, also ensuring rapid communication of any production issues that may adversely affect agreed lead times
  • Plan to maintain a consistently high delivery level with a target of 99% on time deliveries
  • Constantly review production performance to ensure planned requirements will be effectively achieved and manage the consequence of any unforeseen issues
  • Collate and report performance data against set KPI’s
  • Identify and implement improvements that reduce labour times and waste costs
  • Work to implement necessary tools to plan to the most accurate forecast figures
Ordering & material management
  • Management of all Production Works Orders from raising through to completion
  • Creating BOM’s for new products and managing BOM’s for existing products
  • Working with Purchasing & Stores to determine agreed stock holding levels, ensure material stock is correct and Works order kitting is carried out effectively
Technical Manager support & holiday cover
  • Project management of large & complex customer orders
Any other tasks required to support the Production Manager in the running of the Production Department

Experience & Skills

  • At least 5 years’ experience of working as a Production Planner in a manufacturing environment
  • Good understanding of production and planning principles
  • Excellent PC skills - advanced level skill in Excel and intermediate in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Educated to degree level, ideally a qualification in planning or scheduling
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Project management experience
  • Worked with ERP / MRP systems
  • Ideally from a technical background (e.g. engineering, science related), though not essential

Customer Service and Technical Support

Would suit Chemistry graduate or lab technician

Working as part of a small, friendly Customer Service Team to deliver world class customer service and technical support to our UK and international customers. Based in Saffron Walden and reporting to the Customer Service Manager

Customer Service

  • Responding to customer sales enquiries via telephone and email
  • Processing and acknowledging incoming customer purchase orders on our sales/accounts system
  • Recording customer interaction in our customer database
  • Preparing quotations for customers in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Filing of paperwork and digital documentation
  • Assisting with in-house events and meetings - organising meeting rooms, refreshments etc.
  • Other general duties to support the smooth running of the company

Technical Support

  • Providing technical support via telephone and email to end-users, distributors and colleagues for our full range of chemistry products. Including, but not limited to:
    • Pre-sale product selection/specifications
    • Preparing and following up quotations
    • Post sales enquires
    • Identifying spares, accessories, add-ons etc.
    • Assisting with product installation/start-up/set-up issues
    • Application support
    • Diagnosing faults
    • Provide cover for the Technical Support Manager

    Experience and Skills:

    • Scientific background essential (via degree or similar level qualification in chemistry, or via practical lab experience)
    • Experience of working in a technical support role is beneficial, but not essential
    • Experience of working in a customer service role is beneficial, but not essential
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
